Woodbridge Town (2nd) and Godmanchester Rovers (3rd) were the only winners from the amongst the top 8 in the Premier Division. The Woodpeckers were being held 1-1 at half time by in form FC Clacton on Saturday but ran out 4-2 winners while Godmanchester came from behind to beat Haverhill Rovers 4-1 on Friday evening, with Cavan King scoring twice on his debut. Godmanchester and Woodbridge clash on Tuesday evening in Huntingdonshire. Leaders Histon were held to a goalless home draw by fourth placed Stowmarket Town.

Long Melford slipped into the bottom two after a 2-0 home defeat by Newmarket Town with Great Yarmouth Town exiting the relegation places following their 5-2 success over Walsham le Willows. There were other important results near the bottom of the table with Thetford Town netting a late winner to defeat Ely City 2-1 and Hadleigh United beating bottom side Framlingham Town 3-1.

Other Premier Division results on Saturday: Norwich United 0 Kirkley & Pakefield 0, Whitton United 1 Brantham Athletic 0, Wroxham 1 Gorleston 3.

It was a similar story in First Division North with Fakenham Town and Lakenheath the only winners from the top 9. Leaders Harleston Town were beaten by a first half Alex Walpole goal for Fakenham Town with the visitors moving up to third in the table. Second placed Mulbarton Wanderers were held 0-0 at Norwich CBS and Swaffham Town dropped to fourth after Shaun Avis scored twice on his debut for Lakenheath in a 4-1 victory.

Needham Market Reserves moved off the bottom of First Division North following their fourth successive victory, this time a 3-1 home success against Downham Town. Wisbech St Mary’s 3-1 loss at Leiston Reserves has condemned them to the bottom slot, one point behind Felixstowe & Walton Reserves, who lost their key home battle with King’s Lynn Town Reserves 2-1.

Other First Division North results on Saturday: AFC Sudbury Reserves 1 Debenham LC 3, Cornard United 3 Diss Town 1, Haverhill Borough 3 Ipswich Wanderers 4 (both teams had lost their last 7 matches).

In First Division South Hashtag United were without a game and third placed Halstead Town made most ground after beating Lopes Tavares 2-0. Second placed White Ensign (at May & Baker) and Harwich & Parkeston (at home to Frenford) were both held 1-1 while Hackney Wick won 3-0 at Coggeshall United in a match between two teams on the edge of the title scenario.

Newbury Forest moved off the bottom of First Division South following a comprehensive 4-0 win at Fire United, who themselves now drop to the bottom slot. Wivenhoe Town’s long run of 15 consecutive defeats was halted by a goalless draw at Burnham Ramblers in manager Gary Monti’s first game in charge.
