CLUB HISTORY
Whittlesey Athletic Football Club was formed in 2014 as a result of a merger between two long-standing clubs, Coates Athletic (1957) and Whittlesey United (1950).
At the time the clubs merged they both had first teams playing in the Premier Division if the Peterborough and District Football League and a reserve team each as well.
Shortly after the initial merger another local club Whittlesey Blue Star also came on board creating the club that we know today.
Currently the club has 3 Senior Men’s Saturday teams (UCL Div 1 and PDFL Div 1 and 4), 1 Senior Men’s Sunday Team (PSMFL Division 3), 1 Senior Ladies team (Cambridgeshire Women’s Premier), 1 Youth team (Northants Senior Youth League) and 3 Junior teams from U9, U11 and U16.
Significant investment has been made (and is ongoing) in developing our ground at Feldale with floodlights and a new 50 seated stand the latest additions. We continue to invest in the playing surface at Feldale and the new lawn-mower and other equipment will hopefully allow this to continue.
The next projects at Feldale include the desire for an additional set of changing rooms (including officials) which will help us utilise both pitches at Feldale as often as we can/need to, the desire for a purpose built brick clubhouse allowing us to offer an improved matchday experience for our supporters, improved internal fencing to control/restrict access and movement within the site and lastly and general improvements to the site as a whole.
Our long-term aims and aspirations for Feldale include a 4G Floodlit pitch, offering an all year round surface for the whole community to use for matches and training and the addition to Feldale of other sports and organsations.
Despite 2019/20 season being null and void officially, current manager Ricky Hailstone was happy with the progress the club made during its first season back at this level with the team sitting in 13th place when the season was halted. Ricky is hoping to put together a stronger team that will have also gained in experience from 2019/20 which will see the club establish themselves in the Division.
Whittlesey Athletic have joined the Eastern Counties League for Season 2021/22.
