Stowmarket Held but Still Clear in Premier Division

Stowmarket Town‘s 10 match winning run came to an end in a 2-2 draw at Haverhill Rovers on Saturday afternoon. The home side led at half time but fell behind before substitute Thomas Stoker equalised in the 87th minute.

Stow still have a 13 point lead at the top of the Premier Division despite all their nearest challengers winning – the top 5 in the table are also the top 5 in the form Table. Wroxham completed the double over Woodbridge Town with a single goal victory at Trafford Park, while Newmarket Town beat Kirkley & Pakefield 2-1. Stanway Rovers overcame Mildenhall Town 2-1 and Norwich United left Walsham le Willows as 2-0 winners.

However, the game of the day in the Premier Division was probably at the Austin Arena where FC Clacton and Thetford Town drew 5-5.

Mulbarton Wanderers increased their lead at the top of First Division North with a 3-2 victory at a spirited Leiston Reserves. Second placed Downham Town had to rely on a 90th minute equaliser from George Watts-Sturrock at Great Yarmouth Town to rescue a point. Lakenheath maintained third place by beating Framligham Town 4-2 after being a goal down at half time., while March Town United were the big winners in the division – 6-1 against Needham Market Reserves. Craig Gillies scored a hat trick for the Hares.

The top three in First Division South were inactive on Saturday, enabling White Ensign (4-0 winners over Brightlingsea Regent Reserves) and Halstead Town (4-3 winners at improving Newbury Forest with the winning goal coming with the last kick of the game) move up a place in the table. Holland and Coggeshall United also gained 3 points in their quest for a promotion position.
