Bank Holiday Monday afternoon sees the 2018/19 League Challenge Cup Final between Long Melford and Fakenham Town. The Norfolk v. Suffolk match is at Diss Town, kick off 3pm – admission £6 and £3 for concessions.
First Division Fakenham Town have twice appeared in the final, losing to Halstead Town in 1995/96 and on penalties to Lowestoft Town in 2000/01. Third time lucky? On the way to this final they beat Wisbech St Mary and then won three successive penalty shoot outs against Swaffham Town, Kirkley & Pakefield and Newmarket Town. In the League the Ghosts have finished sixth, losing only twice away from home all season.
It is Premier Division Long Melford‘s debut in the final. In previous rounds they have beaten Woodbridge Town, Stowmarket Town, Hadleigh United and Benfleet. In the League the Villagers have had a challenging season, only confirming their Step 5 status on Saturday but they were one of only three sides to beat Champions Histon.
Should be an interesting final.
